Forest Roots is a homeschool nature immersion program for ages 6-12. In the forest environment, children have the opportunity to learn through direct experience, while hiking, playing and exploring at Saint Edward State Park. Our nature curriculum is shaped by the seasons, natural processes, and events in our park and community, connecting the children to their local environment and giving them an intimate understanding of the workings of our forest. A significant portion of each day is always dedicated to student-directed projects and free play, allowing the children to build their confidence and independence, as well as teamwork, communication and leadership skills. We also incorporate mindfulness practice and yoga into our days, to help students develop breath and body awareness, build concentration and connect to their surroundings.
