Sprouting Roots

Forest Preschool

Our Sprouting Roots Forest Preschool program follows the German model of nature immersion in early education, there called Waldkindergartens. In an exclusively outdoor environment, children have limitless possibilities to explore, experiment, learn and play while building relationships with each other and with their local environment. Our Master Teachers are guided by the Cedarsong Way, an inquiry-based, interest-led teaching method developed by internationally recognized Nature Immersion expert Erin Kenny. For more information on Nature Immersion and the Cedarsong Way, visit erinkenny.com.

Our Sprouting Roots days are filled with songs, games, exploration and play as the children build connections with each other and with the world around them. The varied environment of Saint Edward State Park allows the children opportunities to seek out activities following their own interests; to take personal space as needed; to test and build their physical abilities through climbing, digging, and building; and to create their own experience each day, all with the support and guidance of our loving teachers.

All year long, rain or shine the Preschoolers in our program enjoy the ever-changing adventure that the Forest provides. Through hands-on, intentional in the moment learning the children in our program gain many foundational life skills and tools: resiliency, empathy, understanding of self, others and nature, self-regulation, curiosity, confidence, growth mindset, mindfulness, stewardship, love of learning, critical thinking skills and a foundation of nature connection that will last them a lifetime.

This is a 100% outdoor forest program-We have fun no matter what the weather! As the outdoor lovers saying goes,

"There is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing". During the winter months and on really rainy days, we provide a shelter (tent/tarp shelter) and warm tea time so that our campers will have a dry space to play, learn and warm up!
